NBC IS GIVING A VOICE TO SONGWRITERS

NBC has ordered an 11-part songwriting competition show from Adam Levine, EurythmicsDave Stewart and Ryan Tedder. There is no airdate set yet.

Songland, produced by NBC and its sister unit Universal Television Alternative Studio, will provide up-and-coming songwriters with a chance to be mentored by three music producers per episode.

In each episode, five songwriters will perform their songs for three music producers and a major recording artist who will then pass along advice on how to better shape the song.

After the performances, the recording artist will choose three songwriters to move forward to the studio and pair them with a producer. In the end, a winner will be chosen and their song will be recorded and released as the top artist’s next single.

The first episode features Charlie Puth, Shane McAnally, Tedder and Ester Dean.

Songland has been an ongoing passion project for both myself as well as my team at 222,” Levine said. “As a songwriter, I am all too familiar with the challenges that face the music community today. With this new series, we are excited to provide opportunities that will not only impact these songwriters’ careers but also give them a platform to truly showcase their talent to a global audience.”

“Songland” will be executive produced by Stewart, The Voice producer Audrey Morrissey, Levine and director Ivan Dudynsky are the executive producers. Josh Gummersall will produce along with Tedder.

The show is still casting aspiring songwriters here.
