To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the release of The Beatles’ “White Album,” Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe will release an edition with new stereo and 5.1 mixes, demos and session recordings on 11/9.
The album’s 30 tracks are newly mixed by producer Giles Martin and mix engineer Sam Okell who worked with an expert team of engineers and audio restoration specialists at Abbey Road Studios in London. All the mixes were sourced directly from the original four-track and eight-track session tapes.
“In remixing ‘The White Album,’ we’ve tried to bring you as close as possible to The Beatles in the studio,” explains Giles Martin in his written introduction for the new edition. “We’ve peeled back the layers of the ‘Glass Onion’ with the hope of immersing old and new listeners into one of the most diverse and inspiring albums ever made.”
The set will be released in various configurations.
The seven-disc Super Deluxe is individually numbered—just as they did on early copies in 1968—and includes the new stereo mix of The BEATLES, the demos recorded at George Harrison’s house in Esher, Surrey, in May 1968 and 50 additional recordings. The set’s six CDs and Blu-ray disc are housed in a 164-page hardbound book. The Blu-ray disc features the 2018 album mix in high resolution PCM stereo, DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 album mix, Dolby True HD 5.1 album mix and direct transfer of the album’s original mono mix.
The Deluxe set is three CDs or four 180-gram LPs that include The BEATLES and the 27 Esher Demos.
The Standard double LP is the new mix in the album just as you would have bought it in the ‘60s and ‘70s with the all white gatefold and the pictures and the poster.
