AVRIL LAVIGNE RETURNS: "HEAD ABOVE WATER" HEADS TO #1

Avril Lavigne's new single, "Head Above Water" (BMG), her first new music in five years, was released on 9/19 to a resounding response.

The single has hit #1 in 17 different countries and Top 10 in 41 more, while currently landing at #2 on the U.S. iTunes chart. The video has scored 1.6m+ views so far.

Inspired by the singer's well-documented struggle with Lyme disease, the song came from a deeply personal place.

“One night, I thought I was dying, and I had accepted that I was going to die. My mom laid with me in bed and held me. I felt like I was drowning. Under my breath, I prayed ‘God, please help to keep my head above the water.’ In that moment, the song writing of this album began. It was like I tapped into something. It was a very spiritual experience. Lyrics flooded through me from that point on,” said Avril.

The singer is backing up the message of "Head Above Water" through The Avril Lavigne Foundation, which has launched a charitable t-shirt campaign that will raise funds to directly impact individuals affected by Lyme that wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford treatment.
