U.K. CHARTS: EMINEM BREAKS A RECORD

Eminem now boasts the most consecutive #1 albums in the U.K. as Kamikaze (Polydor) shifts 55k combined sales, becoming his ninth British chart-topper. Indie band Idles are the second highest new entry at #5 with second album, Joy as an Act of Resistance (Partisan).

Kamikaze outsold its closest competitor, the Mamma Mia! soundtrack (Polydor), by three copies to one. In doing so, Eminem has broken another record as the international act with most #1s on the Official Albums Chart this millennium.

On breaking the U.K. chart record and making chart history, Eminem said, “Does this mean I get to call myself Sir Eminem?”

Overall, Robbie Williams is the only artist to have more, with 10. Kamikaze is the fourth fastest-selling release of 2018 so far behind albums from Arctic Monkeys, Drake and George Ezra. The majority of sales—30k—came from streaming.

Idles, who were honored at the AIM Awards for Hardest Working Band, claim this week’s best-selling vinyl release.

Passenger is also new at #6 with Runaway (Black Crow), followed by The Kooks at #9 with Let’s Go Sunshine (Lonely Cat), while Troye Sivan claims his second U.K. Top 10 with Bloom (Polydor) at #10.

On the Official Singles Chart, Calvin Harris and Sam Smith have hit the top with “Promises” (Columbia) for its third charting week. The feat means Harris is officially the act with the most #1 hits this decade after topping the chart eight times since 2010.

Eminem has the highest new entry with “The Ringer” at #4, followed by “Lucky You” f/Joyner Lucas at #6 and “Greatest” at #9.

This week's fastest riser is “Thunderclouds” (Syco) by dance supergroup LSD—comprising Labrinth, Sia, and Diplo—which rockets 25 places to #22. Singer-songwriter Freya Ridings climbs seven places to #29 with “Lost Without You” (Good Soldier), Australian singer-songwriter Dean Lewis jumps 17 places to enter the Top 40 for the first time at #35 with “Be Alright” (Island), while “Beautiful” (Atlantic), a collaboration from Bazzi and Camila Cabello, rises six to enter at #36.
