ARIANA PAYS TRIBUTE TO ARETHA

On the night of her album Sweetener's release, Ariana Grande was scheduled appear on Fallon. She was not, however, supposed to sing—according to TMZ—but the powerhouse vocalist ended up doing an impassioned, remarkably deft rendition of "Natural Woman" with The Roots. The Republic star, reportedly overcome by emotion following the passing of one of her idols, then broke down in tears. Watch her generation-bridging performance below.
