PRINE’S SONG OF THE SUMMER GETTING SINGLE RELEASE

"Summer’s End,” the sublime centerpiece of John Prine’s The Tree of Forgiveness, released on his own Oh Boy label, and produced by the renowned Dave Cobb, is being released as a single, with a radio impact date of 9/4. Brandi Carlile’s crystalline harmony vocal brings added resonance to this elegiac classic, which Rolling Stone chose as its Song of the Summer and Grammy buzz on the veteran artist grows.

Prine’s first album of new material in 13 years, The Tree of Forgiveness is a late-career landmark and has been greeted as such. It’s the highest-charting album of his nearly half-century career, with 54k albums sold in the first week and 120k+ to date, while also accruing close to 7m total streams, nearly 2m of those for "Summer's End." The lyric video for that song is at 250k streams, with an official video on the way.

Prine, Carlile and Sturgill Simpson performed the ballad on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert in April. Watching it will enrich your day.
