ARETHA: FANS SHOW HUGE RESPECT

Music fans are mourning the loss of Aretha Franklin and taking solace in her extraordinary musical legacy.

Could the surge in marketplace activity make Aretha a candidate for a posthumous #1 chart week? Stay tuned.

At iTunes, the mighty Otis Redding-penned "Respect" is #1, the incandescent Carole King/Gerry Goffin smash "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" is #2, the magical Bacharach/David tune "I Say a Little Prayer" sits at #3, the rockin' "Chain of Fools" is #4 and the molten soul of "Think" occupies the #5 position. Her comeback hit "Freeway of Love" is #7, one slot above "Until You Come Back to Me,"  while "I Never Loved a Man" is #15.

On the albums side, Aretha's 30 Greatest Hits (via Rhino) is #2 and the gospel set Amazing Grace Live (also Rhino) is #8, followed by five more collections in the Top 20, led by Queen of Soul (Warner U.K.) at #11.

There are more titles in the 30s and 40s as well; how high might they get?

At Apple MusicAretha Franklin Essentials is the #1 playlist.

30 Greatest Hits is also the top digital album at Amazon and a top-selling CD, as is The Very Best of Aretha Franklin: The 60s (Rhino).

SiriusXM has announced a multi-channel tribute to the legendary artist, with Soul Town (channel 49) becoming The Aretha Franklin Tribute Channel, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Radio channel (310) playing music and thoughts from other artists; and VOLUME (106) exploring her life, music and legacy with live broadcasts. All of which should only drive further interest in the Queen's incredible catalog.
