The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Despite a lukewarm reception, Warner Bros.' shark flick, The Meg, drastically overperformed this weekend, bringing in close to $45m—enough to land at the top of the domestic box office. And two other debuts made the Top 5 this time around. Sony horror movie Slender Man also overperformed at #4, even though it opened to dreadful reviews (and a 15% Rotten Tomatoes score). Spike Lee's BlacKkKlansman, meanwhile, arrived at #5 with an impressive 97% at Rotten Tomatoes.

2. Mission: Impossible - Fallout (Paramount) $20.0m 3,888/$5,144 avg.  (week 3)
3. Disney's Christopher Robin (Buena Vista) $12.4m 3,602/$3,451 avg.   (week 2)
4. Slender Man (Screen Gems) $11.3m 2,358/$4,803 avg. (debut)
5. BlacKkKlansman (Focus) $10.8m 1,512/$7,142 avg. (debut)
