Spotify has been named the official go-to music partner for Samsung. The electronics company will be offering deeper integrations and the ability to seamlessly switch between mobile, TV and smart speaker.
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek and Samsung CEO DJ Koh announced the partnership today at Samsung Galaxy Unpacked.
“This partnership with Samsung reduces the friction for users to get Spotify up and running on multiple Samsung devices once the accounts have been linked,” Ek said in a Q&A on the company blog. “It allows us to create a seamless music listening experience together for the user that would be hard for either of us to build alone.”
The collaboration begins with the Spotify app on the Samsung Smart Switch on mobile devices. Soon, Samsung Smart TV users will be able to play Spotify through the SmartThings app. Eventually, as a user moves from room to room, devices will be aware of the listener’s location and offer the opportunity to change the device playing the music. Bixby, Samsung's voice solution, will be fully integrated with Spotify, even if the user has never used Spotify.
To celebrate the partnership, Ek changed his ringtone to "Gangnam Style."
