With Travis Scott’s ASTROWORLD frying the atmosphere with its super-heated arrival as audiences crush the streams to devour the new music, an album already embedded with some very memorable visual iconography (such as the David LaChapelle cover art) continues to deliver a feast for the eyes, this time in a Dave Meyer-directed video for the song “Stop Trying To Be God,” featuring Kid Cudi, Stevie Wonder and James Blake.
Meyer takes Scott’s message on the track about staying humble and resisting the “god complex” and builds on the Biblical theme in the video with a stream of visually striking scenes, starting with Travis as a shepherd walking among sheep, then baptizing followers, bringing the apocalypse riding a fire-breathing dragon and then finally, having his brain melted by God himself.
Cameos include James Blake and baby mama Kylie Jenner, wearing a glittering gold dress and cradling a baby lamb.
