U.K. MIDWEEKS: WORLD CUP MANIA

The 22-year-old soccer anthem “Three Lions” (Epic) is currently at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart as England heads to the World Cup semi-final on Wednesday. Over on albums, Years & Years (Polydor) could have a second #1.

Originally released in 1996 when England was the host—and qualified for the semi-finals—of Euro 96, “Three Lions” by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds has shifted 24k downloads and 2.6m streams since Friday. It’s ahead of George Ezra’s “Shotgun” (Columbia) by 8k combined sales at the halfway stage.

Elsewhere in the Top 5, Years & Years have jumped four places to #4 with “If You’re Over Me” and Jonas Blue is up five places to #6 with “Rise” (Virgin EMI).

A Facebook campaign to get Green Day’s “American Idiot” (Warner) back into the Official Chart ahead of Donald Trump’s visit to the U.K. this week sees the 2004 hit currently at #18. In London, protestors will welcome his arrival with a giant floating baby balloon modeled on Trump.

Over on the Official Albums midweeks, Years & Years’ second album, Palo Santo, is currently #1. The Greatest Showman soundtrack (Atlantic) is behind at #2 and Drake’s Scorpion (Island) has dropped to #3. The second highest new entry looks set to be soccer star turned singer/songwriter Tom Grennan with Lighting Matches (Insanity) at #5.
