CHANCE TIPS KANYE, CHILDISH COLLABS

During an interview for Complex show Open Late With Peter Rosenberg, Chance the Rapper discusses where he's at, from his go-to Chicago studio, CRC. He's currently cooking up a seven-track set with Kanye, while also working on a project with Childish Gambino. According to the widely respected Grammy winner, there are six Gambino/Chance songs done, which are "all fire," but he thinks the album will end up with more than 14 songs.

The Coloring Book mastermind, who's well-known for his anti-label mindset and indie approach, essentially says that he even started to consider releasing through a label: "I'm trying to figure out how to release. That's a big part of the art form for me. What is the direction for it artistically? In terms of the cover, in terms of who it's directed towards... what perspective I'm getting off, and what perspective are people looking at my shit from."

Rosenberg then asked if he was considering "selling the next album": "I used to be. But now I wanna get on my mixtape shit because I got the best mixtape batting average out of anybody. So, I feel like I could just take off. Like, my Christmas albums were crazy, but that's the issue. In all honesty, I already juked the labels. At the end of the day, I already got all of these songs off swaps & shit... but I'm not gonna go crazy on any labels right now... I wanna make music, and I want as many people to hear it as possible. But how do you do that? How do you function when everybody's tied up to one of the three majors?"

Chance cites Donald Glover (aka Gambino) as his musical mentor and says he taught him everything he knows about the music industry. Later in the interview, he gets into societal racism, the current climate and philanthropy. Dive in below.
