NOISEMAKERS:
MOVIN' & SHAKIN'

The industry folk showcased here haven’t appeared often in our publication—and after this mortifying experience, they probably hope they never will again.

In any event, meet another batch of professionals from different parts of the biz whose dedication and effort make their superiors look good.

Brandon Pankey

VP Business Development & Operations Urban, Live Nation

Pankey began as an assistant to Shawn Gee at Sports & Entertainment Financial Group, moving up to oversee tours and finances for the likes of Drake, Lil Wayne and Jill Scott. Following SEFG’s merger with The Blueprint Group, he became involved with The Roots, G-Eazy and more for Maverick. He now works on The Roots Picnic, Roots Jam Sessions, RapCaviar Live, Broccoli City Music Festival and other live events. Pankey is also an Adjunct Professor at Drexel University, and is appalled by our spelling and grammar.

Lucas Romeo

VP Top 40 Promotion, Republic

The night The Weeknd’s Beauty Behind the Madness Tour ended, Romeo recalls riding with the artist to the Miami afterparty accompanied by a police escort, thinking about the night—only a few years prior—when he waited in line at The Music Hall of Williamsburg to see the guy sitting next to him perform. He says being part of the Post Malone craze has been a blast, even when his team had to fight tooth and nail for every spin. Romeo, who played baseball in college and still dreams of being the Yankees’ shortstop, is excited that Hailee Steinfeld is on deck.

Christine Cao

Music Agent, Paradigm Talent Agency

Cao looks back fondly at Daya’s Grammy win for that red-hot Chainsmokers collab and is now setting up fall tours for First Aid Kit, Alina Baraz, Gallant, Nothing but Thieves, Hyukoh, Yungblud, Matt Maeson, and BØRNS. A classically trained violinist, she also finds the time to work on events with City of Hope and serve as a mentee at A Place Called Home. She’s busy but will drop everything for certain Coffee Bean concoctions and oysters (preferably not together).

Jaime Zeluck Hindlin

Owner/Founder, Nonstop Management

Handling writer/producers like Andrew Wells (Meghan Trainor, Fall Out Boy), Oren Yoel (Miley Cyrus, XXXTentacion), Nick Long (King Princess) and Sam Farrar (of Maroon 5), there’s rarely an uninspired moment for Hindlin, who spent the past four and a half years as an A&R at Prescription Songs. There she signed and developed LAUV, JKash and LunchMoney Lewis, among others, and landed some major placements, including “Work From Home” for Fifth Harmony and “Wiggle” for Jason Derulo. Little-known fact: Jaime was in a music video for Head Automatica at 18.

Kayode Wellington

Director of Creative, Pulse Music Group; A&R Consultant, Sire Records

To go from an internship at Epic Records to signing Rich the Kid with Pulse in three years is no small feat. Just ask Wellington, who, at Pulse, is also working on Phil Good, Goody Grace and Shaylen, among others—while continuing to help develop acts for Sire alongside Rani Hancock. Interestingly, the multifaceted 22-year-old exec has a type of synesthesia that causes him to see specific colors upon hearing certain sounds. The same thing happens to us after a few good bong rips.

Karli Henriquez

Director of Influencer Marketing, I.AM+; Co-Founder, Hyphen at Ampersand

Henriquez says working for will.i.am at his startup is a dream come true. She also recently co-launched Hyphen, which combines traditional and “cultural” marketing with a focus on music and digital, with Marc De Jesus; artist Derek Luh is among the agency’s first clients. Pressed for a fun fact, the onetime MTV host notes, “I’m obsessed with slime. I have slime on my desk at all times—it’s a great stress reliever.” Obsessed with slime? Have we got a mag for you.

Evan Taubenfeld

Head of A&R, Crush Music

In 2017, Weezer and Panic! at the Disco went head to head for the Best Rock Album Grammy, and Taubenfeld hasn’t stopped talking about it yet. As for what’s on the horizon, he says both the new Lykke Li and Panic projects are extremely special. Weezer and Train regularly keep him on his toes, and MAX has some aces up his sleeve. “If it all goes wrong,” Evan tweeted recently, “at least I can pour wine while fixing computers in the back of an ambulance.” Good to have that in your back pocket.

Tamar Rand

VP Promotion & Strategy, RCA Inspiration

At RCAI, Rand has spearheaded radio #1s for Kirk Franklin, Koryn Hawthorne, Travis Greene, Donnie McClurkin, and worked on the longest-running radio single of any format, Marvin Sapp’s “Never Would Have Made It.” A member of the Recording Academy and the board of Progress, Inc.—an agency that supports seniors and young people dealing with disabilities—Rand also serves on the Gospel Music Association’s Award Screening Committee. She’ll likely get no inspiration from seeing her name in this sorry rag.
