WARNER/CHAPPELL TAKES ASCAP RHYTHM & SOUL PUBCO OF THE YEAR

Warner/Chappell boss Jon Platt and team are celebrating once again, having been named Publisher of the Year at the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards. W/C writer Gucci Mane was dubbed Songwriter of the Year (as was UMPG's Quavo), while 25 of the pubco’s writers took Most Performed Song trophies.

Among the decorated writers were Christopher “Brody” Brown for “24k Magic,” Symere Woods for “Bad and Boujee” and “XO Tour Lif3,” Kendrick Lamar for “HUMBLE.” And “Goosebumps,” Beyoncé, Jay-Z and Jahron Brathwaite for “Shining,” Brathwaite for “Wild Thoughts,” “Sex With Me” and “Come and See Me,” Radric Davis for “Black Beatles,” “Slippery” and “Both” and Klenord Raphael for “Bodak Yellow.”

This windfall comes on the heels of W/C taking Pubco of the Year at the ASCAP Latin Music Awards. Latin and R&B/hip-hop are, as you know if you haven’t been napping under a rock, two of music’s fastest-growing areas.

“The caliber of hip-hop & R&B music that Warner/Chappell songwriters are creating is taking the culture to new places,” Platt proclaimed. “It’s great to see such a diverse array of talent recognized with this top honor. I’m especially excited for Gucci Mane, who is such a hard-working, and prolific songwriter. He is so deserving of this distinction.”
