THE WEEKND'S TIME HAS COME

TIME Magazine has recently declared a new group of "Next Generation Leaders," and on the list is the XO/Republic superstar Abel Tesfaye, aka The Weeknd, representing for both his generation and homeland of Canada, joined by other luminous peers like his labelmate Ariana Grande, who was named to the list for the U.S.

The notoriously private and press-shy Tesfaye's profile centered around his path to superstardom, including his skill at "hiding in plain sight," learning that the 2012 version of The Weeknd at Coachella wasn't fully formed yet and that his return in 2018 was part of cementing a legendary status, which he hopes to build on by headlining U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival someday.

But the most startling info for fans is probably the admission that the Maverick-managed singer has an entire album in the vault, “It was very upbeat—it was beautiful," he says of the record, which was entirely scrapped "because it was a different time in my life."
