U.K. CHARTS: ARCTIC MONKEYS TOUCH BASE AT #1

Arctic Monkeys have hit the top of the U.K. Official Albums Chart with a combined tally of 86k sales for sixth LP, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino (Domino). The record is also the fastest-selling on vinyl of the last 25 years, shifting 24.5k copies. Over on Singles, Childish Gambino is up to #6.

Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino is the British band’s sixth #1. Its first week sales stats are not comparable to the 157k 2013’s AM clocked up, but higher than the 82k Suck It and See achieved in 2011. Nevertheless, Tranquility Base Hotel + Casino has outsold the entire Top 40 combined this week.

Charlie Puth has the second highest albums entry with Voicenotes (Atlantic) entering at #4. Roots guitarist Ry Cooder is the only other new entry in the Top 10 this week with The Prodigal Son (Caroline) achieving a career best at #10.

Over on the Official Singles Chart, Dua Lipa and Calvin Harris are #1 for a fifth week with “One Kiss” (Columbia/Warner Bros.). Gambino has risen eight places to #6 with “This is America” (Columbia), while Shawn Mendes is up 11 places to #10 with “In My Blood” (Virgin EMI) and its new acoustic version.

In terms of new entries, Arctic Monkeys have three: “Four Out of Five” at #18, “Star Treatment” at #23 and “One Point Perspective” at #26.Rita Ora f/Cardi B, Bebe Rexha and Charli XCX’s “Girls” (Atlantic) has started at #22, Years & Years are new at #38 with “If You’re Over Me” (Polydor) and Selena Gomez is one place behind with “Back To You” (Polydor) at #39.
