SONY SNAGS SUPERSTAR

The soundtrack to NBC’s Easter special Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert will receive a digital release on 4/6 and a CD release on 4/20 via Sony’s Masterworks Broadway.

John Legend plays Jesus Christ, Sara Bareilles is Mary Magdalene and Alice Cooper will play King Herod in the Tim Rice-Andrew Lloyd Webber musical that will be broadcast live on the East Coast on 4/1 from the Marcy Armory in Brooklyn, N.Y.

A #1 album in 1971, Jesus Christ Superstar opened at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on Broadway that year; Ben Vereen won a Tony for his performance as Judas.
