CHART STORY: BRINGING MANIA TO THE MASSES

DCD2/Island’s Fall Out Boy has bowed at #1 on the Top 50 Chart with 127k for their seventh studio album, MANIA. It outpaces The Greatest Showman soundtrack, which moves to #2 with 112k in its seventh week out.

Kidz Bop 37 and LANCO’s Hallelujah Nights (Arista Nashville) are the only other debuts to make the Top 20 this week. They come in at #16 (with 21k) and #20 (with 19k), respectively.

Meanwhile, Sam Smith’s The Thrill of It All (Capitol) jumps #16-9, as lead single “Too Good at Goodbyes” rises into the Top 25 on our Streaming Songs Chart. Next week, we’ll see if Smith’s performance on the Grammys—or any performance, for that matter—manages to moves the needle.

And Right Hand Music/RCA’s Khalid, who went into Grammy night with a whopping five nominations (including Best New Artist), sees his American Teen hop #17-12.

Then there’s Def Leppard, whose catalog recently became available on iTunes for the first time ever. Consequently, Hysteria (Mercury) re-enters the chart at #47.

When it comes to marketshare, UMG is #1 with 48%, WMG follows with 30%, SME is #3 with 21% and the indies claim 1%.

Streeting this week are albums from QC/Motown/Capitol’s Migos and RCA’s Craig David.

And, of course, with the splashy release of “God’s Plan,” which broke records for single-day streams on Spotify and Apple Music, and “Diplomatic Immunity,” wonderers are wondering if YMCMB/Republic’s Drake will drop an album anytime soon. FYI: “God’s Plan” closed the week at the top of the Streaming Songs Chart with a colossal 73m+ streams.
