HUMBLE ANGEL TAKES WING

British streaming expert and Warner Music’s former playlist strategist, Kieron Donoghue, has launched the independent record label Humble Angel Records.

Naturally, the label is focusing on releasing music in the streaming world and aims to offer “a better deal for artists” through increased royalty rates, transparency and data.

Donoghue sold his playlists.net to WMG prior to joining the company as VP of Global Playlist Strategy and Curation. At Warner, he launched streaming-led label Artist to Watch Records in April, which generated 50m streams before Donoghue left in October.

Humble Angel promises a standard contract that’s “at least double the average of what the major labels are offering in terms of royalty rates” with artists getting paid monthly. PR and press is also offered alongside reporting tools and a dashboard that shows where and how fans are listening to its releases and how that converts to revenue for the artist.

The first release goes live today from London based artist Jazz Mino. It’s a cover of “Together in Electric Dreams,” composed by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder for the 1984 sci-fi comedy Electric Dreams.
