Tina Davis—who was SVP of A&R at Def Jam for 10 years before going on to develop and manage Chris Brown—has been appointed to the position of VP of A&R at Empire by founder Ghazi Shami.
S.F.-based Empire started out as a distributor and label in 2010, but the company has recently been beefing up its ranks, with new hires in product development and promotion as well.
Everyone from Kendrick Lamar to XXXTentacion and Migos have utilized distribution partnerships with Empire, but the Davis hire in A&R suggests the company is moving toward developing its own roster.
