YOUTUBE BUYS EMINEM'S SATIRICAL BATTLE RAP FILM

A film produced by Eminem and Def Jam Records CEO Paul Rosenberg is one of the first acquisitions out of the Sundance Film Festival as YouTube has purchased Bodied, a satire set in the world of competitive battle rap.

Adam Merkin stars in Bodied, written by Alex Larsen (aka Kid Twist), a former rap battler turned screenwriter. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, winning the Grolsch People’s Choice Midnight Madness Award, and also won audience awards at AFI Fest and Fantastic Fest.

The film, produced by Adi Shankar and Jil Hardin in addition to Eminem and Rosenberg, will receive a theatrical release, followed by appearing on YouTube Red later this year. The film will be screened at Sundance.

Battle rappers Dizaster, Dumbfoundead, Hollow Da Don and media personality Charlamagne Tha God appear in the film. Rumors of a cameo by Lyor Cohen as the bumbling janitor couldn’t be confirmed at presstime.
