R.I.P. DOLORES O'RIORDAN

Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of The Cranberries, died Monday (1/15) in London, according to an announcement from her publicist; she was 46. No further details have been made available, but the Irish singer/songwriter was apparently in London for a recording session, and her death was sudden.

“Family members are devastated to hear the breaking news and have requested privacy at this very difficult time,” the announcement reads.

O’Riordan and her bandmates formed The Cranberries in 1989; the band achieved mass success with the political single “Zombie” in 1994 and went on to win Ivor Novello and Juno Awards. Their recent tour plans were put on hold due to O’Riordan’s health issues. An acoustic compilation album came out last year.

O'Riordan is survived by her three children.

The band's music has surged at iTunes, with four of their albums in the Top 10: Stars: The Best of, 1992-2002 (#2), No Need to Argue (#4), Something Else (#6) and Everybody Else Is Doing It, so Why Can't We? (#7). On the singles side, "Linger" is #4, "Zombie" is #6 and "Dreams" is #7. The albums are on the Island Def Jam label (and now redound to Island).
