THE FUTURE MOGULS ARE HERE

Forbes' Hip-Hop Cash Princes list has been renamed in recognition of the increasing number of female powerhouses. The 10 acts to make the new Hip-Hop Future Moguls list were revealed today.

This year’s panel of judges included Rap Coalition’s Wendy Day, radio and television personality Charlamagne Tha God, Universal Hip-Hop Museum president Rocky Bucano and Forbes’ Natalie Robehmed, along with the article’s author, Zack O’Malley Greenburg.

All artists must be under 30; and appearing in any other class makes them ineligible, even if it had been as a group (you’ll notice the members of Migos are absent). Previously featured names include now-icons Drake and Kendrick Lamar.

Unsurprisingly, WMG’s Cardi B has solidified her recent reign with the top spot. An artist Forbes claims has the most recognition of anyone on the list, Cardi made waves over the past year with the multi-platinum certification of “Bodak Yellow” and continued chart success of seemingly countless features. Republic’s Post Malone is also in line for an empire, having been responsible for two of the year’s five most-consumed songs (“Congratulations” and “rockstar”). And remember, Beerbongs & Bentleys—the much-anticipated follow-up to debut album Stoney—is close at hand.

But massive mainstream acts are not the only future moguls. After years of under-the-radar hitmaking, Columbia's Tyler, The Creator finally made it on, and viral Soundcloud sensation Lil Pump (Tha Lights Global/Warner Bros.) has come up from the depths of the Internet. Producer Wondagurl (pictured), who’s been credited on hits from Jay-Z, Drake and Rihanna, is also on the list as a BTS future mogul.

Apart from featuring more women than ever before, the 2018 list is diverse in the different subgenres of hip-hop it features. From the punk infusion of Lil Pump to body-pos enrichment from Lizzo, this year’s Future Moguls hail from every corner of the format, bringing the once-niche into the mainstream.
