Her Royal Majesty the Queen has honored a number of U.K. music industry figures in the New Year’s Honours list 2018, including Bee Gees’ Barry Gibb, the Beatles’ Ringo Starr, Soft Cell’s Marc Almond, grime star Wiley and up and coming music manager Grace Ladoja, who looks after Skepta.
Barry Gibb has been awarded a Knighthood for his services to music and charity, as has Ringo Starr for services to music. Marc Almond can now add OBE onto the end of his name for services to arts and culture. Richard Cowie, otherwise known as Wiley, and Ladoja are now MBEs for services to music. Ladoja, who was crowned Rising Star at Music Week’s Women in Music Awards in November, is best known for guiding the career of Skepta, who won the Mercury Music Prize in 2016 for his self-released fourth album, Konnichiwa. The record debuted at #2 on the U.K.'s Official Albums Chart and has since sold over 100k.
