STORMZY SWEEPS MOBOS

British grime superstar Stormzy swept the MOBO (music of black origin) Awards in Blighty last night, with gongs for Best Male Artist, Best Grime Act and Best Album for his ADA-distributed debut, Gang Signs & Prayer (#Merky). Other big winners included J Hus (Black Butter), Stefflon Don (Polydor) and Giggs (Island).

Stormzy aside, Sony acts took home the most awards, with Insanity-signed comeback man Craig David crowned Best R&B/Soul Act, J Hus honored with Best Song for “Did You See,” Wizkid named Best International Act and Davido anointed Best African Act.

Universal had a big win with BRITs Critics Choice nominee Stefflon Don named Best Female Act, while Giggs was Best Hip-Hop Act and Damien Marley won Best Reggae Act.

Independent rising star Dave was Best Newcomer, Moses Boyd (Exodus) was Best Jazz Act, the video for Mist’s “Hot Property” (Sickmade) was Best Video and Volney Morgan & New Ye were Best Gospel Act.
