BMI honored Jamiroquai’s Jay Kay with the prestigious President's Award at yesterday's annual ceremony in London to celebrate U.K. and European songwriting talent. Other honorees included Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber and Major Lazer, while Sony/ATV scored a home run with 13 mentions in the Pop category.
Jay Kay was presented with his award by BMI President
Mike O’Neill for originality across a 30-year career. He thanked those who've supported him including Jamiroquai founding member and co-writer,
Toby Smith. Song of the Year was Bieber’s “Love Yourself” (Sony/ATV). The track was written by Sheeran who has won the gong for the second year running. Dance song of the Year was another penned by Sheeran alongside
Jamie Scott—Major Lazer hit “Cold Water” f/Bieber and
