MAREN MORRIS HEALS WITH "HATE"

Maren Morris’ single released in the wake of the Las Vegas shootings has connected with fans. The video for “Dear Hate” is approaching 1m views on YouTube and is #1 overall at iTunes.

Featuring Vince Gill, “Dear Hate” was released Monday afternoon on YouTube and, based on the response, Columbia Nashville released the single for purchase and streaming. Morris has performed at the Route 91 Harvest Festival on Saturday.

All proceeds will be donated to Las Vegas nonprofits for immediate and long-term needs of victims in the shooting via the Music City Cares fund.

Morris wrote the song with Tom Douglas and David Hodges in 2015, two days after the church shooting in Charleston, S.C., but did not release it.

"I've had the song in my pocket for the last few years and I never knew when to release it," Morris told Rolling Stone. "I wanted to be precious with it because it is such a sensitive subject. It's just insane how relevant the message still is today.

"The song is really not partisan, it's just about bringing love and kindness to the world. I'm staring at all the facets of hatred, the horrific things that have happened throughout history. In the last couple of years, especially, it just feels like we've been bashed over the head with horrible headlines."
