ALEXA IS MUSIC APP'S NEW PLAY MATE

Alexa has moved to the Amazon Music app as the e-tailer aims to broaden its presence in the mobile-based streaming music world.

Amazon Music app users in the U.S., U.K., Germany and Austria can now ask Alexa to play music by genre, decade, mood, tempo or activity. You can even recite lyrics and hope she knows “oop-ip-ip opp-ip-ip, yeaaahhh” is Love’s “7 and 7 Is.”

The Wall Street Journal reports that Amazon’s hope is that the combination of hands-free commands and the ability to get results when asking for “pop music for a cardio workout” will distinguish the service. Obviously, Siri handles similar requests for Apple Music.

Labels, the Journal reported, have been exploring different ways to tag songs to generate more results in voice-activated systems.
