Five years after “Thrift Shop” came out of nowhere and established the commercial presence of Macklemore, the Seattle rapper has risen to #1 at iTunes with his first solo album in 12 years.
Gemini (Bendo), his first solo album since putting his partnership with Ryan Lewis on hiatus, features “Good Old Days,” with Kesha, which is #5. The two performed the song Saturday at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas.
iHeartRadio has been involved in a Macklemore promotion, offering the track “Change,” which does not appear on Gemini, and a guest DJ station where Macklemore provides commentary on his music. An album release performance was held last week at the Echoplex.
