The Top 5 Highest-Grossing Films in America Over the Weekend

Fox sequel Kingsman: The Golden Circle bowed at the top of this weekend's domestic box office, earning $39m—more than the original, which opened with just north of $36m in 2014.

Warner Bros.' The LEGO Nijago Movie, meanwhile, ended up underperforming slightly, earning $21m to debut at #3. That said, according to Box Office Mojo, September's calendar grosses are still approaching a record high.

1. Kingsman: The Golden Circle (Fox) $39m 4,003/$9,743 avg. (debut)
2. It (Warner Bros.) $30m 4,007/$7,487 avg. (week 3)
3. The LEGO Nijago Movie (Warner Bros.) $21m 4,047/$5,250 avg. (debut)
4. American Assassin (Lionsgate) $6.3m 3,154/$1,982 avg. (week 2)
5. Home Again (Open Road) $3.3m 2,685/$1,233 avg. (week 3)
