Gee Roberson—currently at The Blueprint Group, under the Maverick umbrella, and a key player in the music world for more than a decade—is supposedly being considered for a move to the label side in a top-tier role. The well-respected and well-liked Roberson has strong relationships with some of the biggest names in hip-hop and R&B, and, along with Blueprint Group partner Cortez Bryant, manages Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and G-Eazy, among others. He's also had real label experience, having served as an SVP at Atlantic and Chairman of Geffen.
Roberson started his career in the mid-’90s, while still attending college, as an intern at PolyGram-distribbed Payday, then joined Roc-a-Fella, where he did college radio and Mixshow promo and worked with Jay-Z. He also met A&R man Kyambo “Hip Hop” Joshua, with whom he launched a management-production company, and signed young Kanye West as a producer in 1998.
By 2002 he was fielding offers from multiple labels and became SVP of Urban at Atlantic , at which time he and Hip Hop launched management entity Hip Hop Since 1978. After teaming up with Bryant, they began managing Lil Wayne and, shortly thereafter, Drake. Then Nicki came aboard. He launched Blueprint with Bryant (Shawn Gee is also a partner) and that in turn became part of Guy Oseary’s Maverick in 2014.
