Spotify has announced the launch of a new campaign to remind its users that music–and the world at large–has a lot more to offer than frothy pop songs. Soundtrack de Mi Vida is set to shine a light on the plethora of important, albeit often unheard voices in the Latino community.
The program, which launched 8/1, features weekly playlists and audio liners curated by not just Latino leaders, but also DREAMers, the LGBTQ community, LatinX, immigrants and Latino storytellers. These unique groups provide a glimpse about their unique American experiences through the music they select.
“These voices too often go unheard and ignored, and that is the definition of ‘underrepresentation,’” said Rocio Guerrero, Spotify’s Head of Latin Culture, Shows & Editorial. “‘Soundtrack de Mi Vida’ will amplify those voices, out of their communities, their streets, their neighborhoods, and into the national conversation where they belong.”
Users can also curate their own playlist through Soundtrack de Mi Vida and share the link with the hashtag #SoundtrackDeMiVida.
New playlists will appear each Tuesday through September 12. The roster of influencers includes Hispanic activist DJ Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo; Latino storyteller LeJuan James; Venezuelan singer Nacho Mendoza; LGTBQ advocate Carmen Carrera; actress and LatinX rep Carmen Perez; Latina leader Carmen Perez; and young undocumented immigrants of the DREAMer community.
