SPOTIFY STANDS WITH "THE BANNED"

Spotify wasted no time in reacting to the White House's most recent regression when it re-released an installment from its I'm With the Banned playlist series. This particular playlist, The Bathroom Bans, was originally released for Pride month 2017 in reference to gender identity-based accessibility to public school restrooms being rescinded.

The streaming service is using its reach of over 50m paid subscribers to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQ community after an intended ban of transgender citizens in the military was expressed via tweet. They're also being proactive in educating those listeners who aren't already familiar with the oppression of the LGBTQ community.

The playlist features 11 songs by artists that identify as LGBTQ, in addition to short narrations from openly bisexual artist Halsey (Astralwerks), giving context and voice to the plights of those who identify as LGBTQ.

The playlist also features tracks from such outspoken artists as St. Vincent (Concord/Loma Vista/Caroline, Grimes (4AD), Against Me! (Total Treble) and Shamir (XL).

Tipping our hats to Spotify for reminding us that art can empower both people and change.
