SHE IS GERSON,
HEAR HER ROAR

“Meet the first-ever woman to head up a major music publishing group, the virtuoso talent spotter who knows a star the second they walk into a room.” That’s the start of Vassi Chamberlain’s spotlight on UMPG ruler Jody Gerson for magazine Porter (powered by Net-A-Porter).

In the interview, the pair discuss “making a mark in a man’s world," getting advice as a kid from Frank Sinatra and her bond with Justin Bieber, as well as discovering a 14-year-old Alicia Keys (pictured).

The piece affords a glimpse of the exec’s upbringing, going as far back as grade-school nights spent at The Latin Casino—a nightclub owned by her father and grandfather, where the likes of Diana Ross and Sinatra would perform.

“If the artist has a ‘plan B,’ then it’s not going to happen for them,” Gerson explains. “It has to be the one and only thing they can do.”
