GRAMMY AWARDS CONCERT SETS LINEUP

The Recording Academy has finalized the lineup for next week’s Special Merit Awards concert at the Beacon Theater in New York. The latest additions include John Cale, Randy Newman and Dionne Warwick.

The Grammy Salute to Music Legends, produced in partnership with THIRTEEN as part of the Great Performances series on PBS, will feature Cale—the Velvet Underground are receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award— jazz pianist Stanley Cowell, Andra Day, Kirk Franklin, Newman, Catherine Russell, honoree Charley Pride, Valerie Simpson, Warwick, Charlie Wilson and Dwight Yoakam. Paul Shaffer is the musical director for Tuesday’s event.

Besides the VU and Pride, honorees are Shirley Caesar, Ahmad Jamal, Jimmie Rodgers, Nina Simone, Sly Stone, Thom Bell, Mo Ostin, Ralph S. Peer and Alan Dower Blumlein.
