JAY-Z PIVOTS AND 4:44 GOES WIDE

Team Jay-Z/Roc Nation made moves to meet passionate consumer demand for access to his buzzing new album, 4:44, after a seven-day exclusive on his own service, Tidal.

Both Apple Music and Amazon Music Unlimited announced tonight they would be streaming the album beginning at midnight on 7/7. The music video for “The Story of O.J.” is also available on both services, as well as on YouTube.

Spotify is not on the distribution list. Sources close to the situation say Spotify's conspicuous absence is due to its free tier.

This development follows an enormous marketing roll-out that included the mysterious 4:44 campaign that ran for weeks on subways, buses and billboards, plus a commercial-free world premiere of the album on on all Pop, Urban and Rhythm iHeartRadio stations nationwide last Friday evening. Def Jam will handle promotion and will participate in chart share. A clean version of the track "4:44" impacts Urban and Rhythm radio tomorrow.

Universal Music confirmed that physical copies of the 4:44 album would include three additional bonus tracks, "Adnis," "Blue's Freestyle/We Family" and "ManyFacedGod," which reportedly features U.K. R&B singer James Blake. CDs will be available via Amazon beginning 7/7.
