DRAGONS ARE REAL, VIRTUALLY

Citi, Live Nation and NextVR have teamed up to provide up-close-and-personal access to some of the summer’s hottest shows, using virtual reality technology to bring fans to the stages of Imagine Dragons, Lady Antebellum, Third Eye Blind and Prince Royce. And last night at L.A.’s Belasco Theater, KIDinaKORNER/Interscope’s fire-breathing alt/pop band kicked off the unique string of events, a week before their new album, Evolve, streets.

Fans will also be given access to behind-the-scenes footage (in virtual reality) via the Backstage with Citi series, which brings fans to backstage areas and off-day adventures with their favorite stars.

"Live Nation continues to deliver fans unparalleled access to amplify their live music experience," declared Live Nation EVP Global Partnerships and Content Distribution Kevin Chernett. "VR has the ability to deepen the fans relationship with the artist while providing access to fans around the world to experience the energy of live when they can't physically be there."

A reason to not leave our couches (or put on pants)?! Count us in... Attendance to meetings and industry schmooze fests should also be made possible through this medium. Just sayin'.

NextVR content can be accessed using a Samsung Gear VR headset or Google Daydream, along with a compatible smartphone. Users must also download the NextVR app from the Oculus store for GearVR or the Google Play store for Daydream.

Last night’s gig surely looked incredible on those suckers, given the dynamic quality found in Imagine Dragons’ live performances and the dazzling and well-executed lights, along with the intimate space. Remember: The capacity at the Belasco is around 700, and that band can play arenas with ease. The full crowd was beyond engaged, belting along to songs from Evolve (“Believe,” “Thunder,” “Whatever It Takes”), as well as ones off 2015’s Smoke + Mirrors (“Gold,” “Shots,” “I Bet My Life”) and 2012’s Night Visions (“Radioactive,” “Demons,” “It’s Time,” “Hear Me,” “Amsterdam”)
