Spotify is diving into the deep end of nostalgia with Your Summer Rewind, a personalized playlist of songs that have supplied the soundtrack to your summers.
Users in 20 countries will find the Your Summer Rewind playlist on the home screen of the Spotify app or by visiting here. Anyone with more than a year of listening will receive a playlist of the music they have streamed the most in past summers. And Spotify wants everyone to share their summer faves: They’re offering users a sharable card that contains a unique Spotify Code that points to that user’s playlist, and shows their top three summer songs.
Furthermore, Spotify has reached back to the days of AM radio, 8-tracks and the Pontiac Tempest to create the most defining summer song every year from 1967-2016. (We’re a little surprised there are so many ballads.)
“We’re always looking for ways to help connect songs—old and new—to moments in your life,” said Ajay Kalia, Senior Product Owner for Personalized Programming at Spotify. “Your Summer Rewind is designed to spark nostalgia by reminding you of the songs that mattered to you from past summers.”
Can’t wait to relive the year that park bonfire went out of control and we had to create a cockamamie story for the cops. Something about empty Colt .45 cans, a blowtorch and Jack-in-the-Box tacos. Anyhow, pretty sure we were either listening to “Sussudio” or “Sledgehammer.”
