KELLY STREAMS UP TO EVP/CHIEF REVENUE OFFICER AT IGA

Gary Kelly has been upped to EVP/Chief Revenue Officer at Interscope Geffen A&M, label chief John Janick and Vice Chairman Steve Berman have announced.

His new title reportedly marks the first time an exec has been named Chief Revenue Officer at a major label.*

Kelly, previously Head of Revenue & Digital, will lead a team riding herd on revenue, digital marketing and production; it will also oversee all playlisting activities (encompassng another newly minted title, Director of Playlisting). Playlisting "ambassadors" will work with DSPs including Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon, Google Play Music, Tidal and Pandora.

"Gary sees both the challenges and opportunities that lie in a transitional period in the industry," proclaimed Janick, "and I’m happy to announce this much-deserved promotion."

Added Berman, "Gary is at the forefront of the business both in terms of changing the way we approach releasing our music and understanding how the public consumes it. We all look forward to rolling around in large piles of money together."

"When I was growing up in the industry, I always admired Interscope’s penchant for not only having the best talent from an artist standpoint, but also an executive standpoint," reads Kelly's quote. "It was always a dream of mine to join this company. I could not be more thrilled to be part of the amazing team that John has assembled. He is building something for long-term success."

The Cleveland-bred Kelly started in the Sony system as a college-marketing rep; he joined Interscope in 2010 as Head of Sales.

*In 1982, according to our archives, an exec at another label (who will remain anonymous) scrawled the title on his own chest with a magic marker after doing a ton of bumpski and stuffing some petty cash in his underwear.
