DASH OF ‘PEPPER’ ADDED TO BEATLES AMAZON STREAMING SPLASH

A little group called The Beatles made a bit of a splash this week. You may have heard of them. They began recording 55 years ago, and haven’t released an album of all-new material since 1970, yet they are nevertheless one of the ten-most-streamed on Amazon Music worldwide since their music became available in 12/2015. Drake? Kendrick? Harry? Talk to us in half a century, okay?

This week, on the occasion of its 50th anniversary, Apple Corps/Capitol/UMe pulled out the stops to remix and expand The Beatles’ landmark Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Band. Fittingly, Amazon was kind enough to reveal some Fabs facts. For instance, when it comes to Sgt. Pepper, they explain that streamers prefer to listen to the entire album, rather than individual tracks. Hopefully while wearing ginormous headphones.

Alas, despite Sgt. Pepper’s lasting cultural impact, Amazon’s numbers reflect the long-held sentiment of hardcore Fab Fans: We really like it. Totally respect it. But it’s never been our favorite. Pepper is only the fourth-most streamed Beatles album on Amazon. Abbey Road is the toppermost of the poppermost, followed by The Beatles (aka The White Album) and Let It Be. Help! is fifth. [Editor's note: The author does not necessarily speak for every Beatles fan in the office.]

Below are some other factoids, courtesy of Amazon. The data reflects Prime Music usage in the U.S., UK, Germany, Japan and Austria and Amazon Music Unlimited in the U.S., UK, Germany and Austria. Alexa data does not include Japan.
