Forbes has counted the Benjamins and Sean Combs remains hip-hop’s wealthiest artist with an estimated worth of $820m. But for the first time in a long while, he has competition for the top spot.
In its annual Billionaires edition—where Len Blavatnik is the only music exec with a 10-figure-plus worth—Forbes reports that Jay Z’s fortune has seen a 30% increase to $810m due to the $600m valuation of Tidal and a healthy Roc Nation, putting him behind Diddy by a mere $10m. Meanwhile, Dr. Dre made smart investments after selling Beats to Apple, returning to the list for the first time in three years; his fortune is up to $740m.
Cash Money Records co-owner Bryan “Birdman” Williams is #4 with $110m and Drake is fifth at $90m thanks to touring, music sales and deals with Apple, Nike and Sprite.
