HITS' HIGH FIVE: A PRE-EXISTING CONDITION

Unlike Republican members of Congress, we read things before we send them out to the world. Two former One Direction members had good weeks. Columbia's Harry Styles unveiled a third track from his upcoming, self-titled solo debut (due 5/12) and sold out all 13 shows on his U.S. tour in a matter of seconds. Capitol's Niall Horan, meanwhile, dropped “Slow Hands” and it immediately cleaned up at #1 at U.S. iTunes and in 32 other countries.

A major disconnect has occurred between U.S. radio, which finalizes playlists on Tuesdays, and product entering the marketplace, generally a Friday occurrence.

Interscope’s President of Urban Music, Joie Manda, has been upped to EVP of Interscope Geffen A&M.

Chris Stapleton and Logic are duking it out for #1. The Mercury Nashville country phenom and the Def Jam rapper released albums today (5/5) and occupied the top three slots. For Logic, Def Jam launched a campaign called “All About The Fans.”

Warner Bros. is renewing and expanding its deal with OVO Sound, the label that is home to PARTYNEXTDOOR.
