MURPHY'S LAW: OBEY THE GROOVE (UPDATE)

LCD Soundsystem released two songs at midnight in advance of their SNL appearance this weekend. The group, whose last release was on Capitol in 2010, had called it quits after that record. Leader James Murphy (pictured) produced other acts and opened a wine bar (!) before Rob Stringer signed the Ian Montone-repped/re-formed band to Columbia in January 2016 and (to great fanfare) they headlined Coachella in 2016, the first of many festivals where they were the topline act.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Murphy provided the names of the songs—"Call the Police" and "American Dream"—both of which were played during their recent gig at Brooklyn Steel.

He reports they are almost done with the LP with one more vocal and two more mixes to go.

“It's been one of the most enjoyable records to make in my life, if not the most fun ever (i think it is, for sure, the happiest i've ever been making a record.)”

Murphy is insisting that it come out on vinyl the same day as digital, there will be no B sides, and as for concerts, he notes, “We generally prefer medium sized venues over huge ones, but we also loathe overpriced StubHub bullshit, so we're navigating this as best we can. … It's just hard to get our heads around the fact that maybe many more people than we assumed want to see us perhaps DO want to see us. It's been a very nice revelation, but oh dear it's still hard to make sense of.”
