RYAN TEDDER'S NEW SUPERNOVA

Songwriter/producer Ryan Tedder, who recently inked a significant new partnership with Downtown Music Publishing, recently took some time to speak with Newsweek as he worked in London's iconic Abbey Road Studios on a cover song with his band One Republic.

Tedder was in the U.K. to be a part of Music Happens Here, an original music and travel video series produced by Spotify in partnership with Live Nation. The show examines some of the most iconic places around the world where music was created and performed.

One Republic performed at Abbey Road Studios in London for the series, which included tackling a cover of the Oasis classic "Champagne Supernova."

"This is the greatest studio in the world," said Tedder of the experience, "it's intimidating. Doing anything Oasis is incredibly daunting. We were given a list of British artists for cover songs [and] I immediately gravitated towards “Champagne Supernova.” It’s one of the best…it’s my childhood. When I was a kid Oasis blew up. They’re one of the reasons I wanted to be in a band and not be a solo artist—I watched Oasis, U2 and Blur."

Tedder added that he was comfortable recording the song, but if the eternally-warring Gallagher Brothers ever come across it he expects "I’ll get slagged off in magazine, that’s what’s going to happen. The nicest thing they could say is, “I would have expected more from a yank,” which is a very Liam comment."

One Republic’s cover of “Champagne Supernova” will be released on Spotify in June, while the band’s U.S. tour begins 7/7 in Kansas City, Missouri.
