CAMPELL BIDS ADIOS WITH FINAL ALBUM

In James Keach’s riveting documentary Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, we were led to believe we had heard the last of Campbell’s recordings. Besides his final session in 2013 that yielded “I’m Not Gonna Miss You,” Campbell already had a record in the can that will now be released 6/9 on UMe.

Glen Campbell’s final studio album, Adiós, was recorded at Station West in Nashville in 2012 just as Campbell was wrapping his 15-month Final Farewell Tour that started in August 2011. The 12 tracks are songs Campbell loved had not recorded, among them Fred Neil’s “Everybody’s Talkin’,” which he performed on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour in 1973, Bob Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice It’s All Right” inspired by Jerry Reed’s and Roger Miller’s “Am I All Alone (Or Is It Only Me).”

Jimmy Webb, who wrote many of his 1960s hits, is represented with “Adiós,” “Just Like Always” and “It Won’t Bring Her Back.” Willie Nelson joins Glen “Funny How Time Slips Away” and Carl Jackson, Campbell’s longtime banjo player and friend, contributed “Arkansas Farmboy,” a song he wrote in the 1970s about Campbell’s youth. Campbell’s daughter Ashley plays banjo and sings on the album; sons Cal and Shannon provide vocals as well.

Campbell turns 81 on 4/22 and is in the final stages of Alzheimer’s disease.
