MUSIC OF THE BAND AIDS AUTISM EFFORTS

Great music was performed for a great cause Saturday at Glendale’s Alex Theatre when Jackson Browne, Carlene Carter, Peter Case, Victoria Williams, Susan Cowsill and The Band’s Garth Hudson performed music The Band recorded in the late ’60s and early ‘70s to raise money for the Autism Think Tank.

The Wild Honey Foundation, which has been presenting charitable fund-raisers for decades, had the night billed as a celebration of The Band’s first two albums, Music From Big Pink and The Band, but artist dug up songs from throughout The Band’s career at the three-hour show.

Browne performed “Caledonia Mission”; Steve Wynn and Van Dyke Parks, on accordion, delivered “When I Paint My Masterpiece”; Terry Reid sang “King Harvest (Has Surely Come)”; and Case put a unique spin on “This Wheel’s on Fire.”

Musical director Rob Laufer led the Wild Honey Orchestra which included Don Was on bass, backing singers such as Syd Straw, Louise Goffin, Peter Holsapple and The Bangles’ Vicki Peterson.
