IMPALA HONORS INDIE AGNES OBEL

Delicate Danish multi-instrumentalist Agnes Obel has scooped the IMPALA European Independent Album of the Year award for her third set, Citizen of Glass. It puts her in a league with previous winners Adele and The xx.

Signed to London-based indie label Play It Again Sam, helmed by MD Peter Thompson, Citizen of Glass was Obel’s highest U.K. charting album to date, hitting #30 in October. It reached #3 in Denmark, while its two predecessors charted at #1. After selling out the 2k capacity Shepherd’s Bush Empire, Obel will play another London headline show on 6/4 at The Roundhouse. Key Music Management handles her. Stefan Struever in the PIAS German office initially found her.

“How wonderful for Agnes’ new album to be acknowledged in this way,” Thompson said. “She's a successful and well-respected artist in many countries across Europe so seeing her receive the IMPALA award is a wonderful recognition of Agnes' widespread popularity and the sheer quality of the Citizen of Glass album. Totally deserved.”

Among the 25 artists shortlisted for this year’s honour were Radiohead, Dubioza Kollektiv, Highasakite, Klaus Johann Grobe, Sara Renar, Lost Frequencies and Kase.O. Previous winners of the IMPALA prize include Caribou and José Gonzalez.
