CHART STORY: DIVIDE NUMBERS MULTIPLY

Ed Sheeran is still #1. But did you really expect otherwise? Divide, which bowed last week with 445k+ (the biggest debut of the year so far), scores another 160k on the Sales Plus Streaming (SPS) Chart this week.

Meanwhile, Metallica’s Hardwired… To Self Destruct (Blackened), still benefiting from the fruits of a ticket bundle, also holds at #2, earning an additional 103k, which is actually more than the Q-Prime band did last week (83k).

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast soundtrack appears at #3 and turns out to be the only debut in the Top 15 this week with 59k.

And speaking of Disney soundtracks, the one for Moana jumps back into the Top 5 with 50k, in tandem with the DVD release.

Further down on the chart, powered by sales pricing at iTunes, Michael Jackson classic Thriller (Epic/Legacy) re-enters at #37.

When it comes to SPS marketshare, UMG leads with 40%. Then there’s WMG at #2 with 38% and SME at #3 with 20%.

Over on the Album Sales Chart, Metallica is #1 with a beyond-impressive 102k. Ed Sheeran follows at #2 with north of 77k and Beauty and the Beast is #3 with 52k.

Two other debuts make the Top 10 on this chart: The ShinsHeartworms (Columbia) comes in at #7 with 18k and Josh Turner’s Deep South (MCA Nashville) enters at #8 with 16k.

And another beneficiary of iTunes’ sales pricing, Hollywood’s Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack, re-enters at #13.

The results from the Album Sales marketshare battle look a bit different when compared to the SPS rankings. There, WMG is #1 with 47%, while UMG and SME follow with 38% and 15%, respectively.

Streeting this week are albums from Venusnote/Columbia’s Depeche Mode, Def Jam’s Rick Ross, Matador’s Spoon, Mr.305/Polo Grounds/RCA’s Pitbull and Epic’s Zara Larsson. And what about Drake’s More Life, due 3/18? What is it, really? And just how big will the YMCMB/Republic project be?

If you have read all the way to this point, you should be ashamed of yourself. We’re going to go drink some green beer and pretend to be Irish.
