Pitbull’s expansive impact over his decade-plus career as an artist is getting a prestigious shout-out from the Songwriters Hall of Fame, which is honoring him with the first-ever Global Ambassador Award. The award recognizes Pitbull's global appeal, coupled with his success at busting through genre and cultural boundaries.
The Miami-based hip-hopper, born Armando Christian Perez, will receive the award at the 48th annual Induction and Awards Dinner, held 6/15 at New York’s Marriott Marquis Hotel.
“Pitbull’s success, creativity, tireless musical collaboration and his wide-ranging social activism make him the ideal songwriter-performer to initiate the SHOF Global Ambassador Award,” said SHOF co-chairs Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff and President/CEO Linda Moran. “
Pitbull will be honored alongside 2017 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductees Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Berry Gordy, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Robert Lamm & James Pankow p/k/a "Chicago," Max Martin, and Shawn "Jay Z" Carter.
Pitbull drops his 10th full-length album, Climate Change, this Friday.
