SONY/ATV SPENDS 52 WEEKS AT #1 ON U.K. SINGLES CHART

Cohibas for everyone!. Martin Bandier's Sony/ATV Music Publishing has published or co-published the No. 1 single in the U.K. each week for an entire year. Ed Sheeran, holding onto #1 with “Shape of You” for its ninth straight week, pushed the pubco over the 52-week mark.

It all started in March 2016 when Mike Posner’s “I Took A Pill In Ibiza” spent the first of four weeks at #1. Since then, Sony/ATV’s lock on the position has been through records by Drake, Major Lazer & Justin Bieber, The Chainsmokers, James Arthur, Little Mix and Clean Bandit.

“We can’t underestimate this incredible accomplishment,” Sony/ATV Chairman and CEO Bandier said. “It’s difficult enough to have one No. 1 but 52 weeks or a solid one year is unheard of. It proves our global approach to music with a strong local A&R presence is a successful strategy.”

In reflecting on the achievement, Guy Moot, Sony/ATV UK Managing Director and President, European Creative, said, “It’s a nice bonus that we got there in Ed’s record-breaking week. I’m particularly pleased that this run highlights the diversity of our roster from emerging and established homegrown talent to international superstars.”

For those of you scoring at home, here’s a list of the songs and songwriters in the 52-week run at #1. Pour of dram of Dalmore 50, light up a Romeo y Julietta Duke and savor.
